Digitally Altered Pictures

I chose to talk about the picture where there is a military helicopter. Hanging from the helicopter is a man on one of those rope ladders that helicopters can have, and right beside the man, there is a huge shark that jumped. I chose this picture because I had seen it before and was unaware that it was an altered pictire and that it wasn't true. The picture is awestriking because since people can only see the picture, they imagine that what happened is that the man in the helicopter was eaten by the shark. In reality, the picture of the helicopter with the man does not really include the shark; The shark was later added to give it a really tragic but amazing seemed-to-be-captured moment.
Even though it is not horribly harmful because no one's prestige or anything of the sort is really harmed, the picture can be harmful in the way that it really tricks people to believe it. I know this because I was tricked by it. I remember when I first saw it, because of the way it was portayed, it seemed that it had actually happened, so it made you think that the man in the helicopter had terrible luck.
This picture was extremely popular on the internet in 2001 and can now be found in the Museum of Hoaxes.

I have seen that picture too, but I never knew that it wasn't real. I am kind of upset, yet relieved at the same time haha. I dont understand why people manipulate pictures like this. You picked a great picture!

I think that picture is absolutely hilarious personally (but I have a dark sense of humor). Good point about how adding in something unrelated to the original picture can completely alter the perception of the events in the image. Keep up the good work!

Hi Raul! I agree with you--this kind of photoshopping is harmful to some degree. The picture fools the viewer and usually comes with an article or caption that makes you believe its true. On a different note, I hope you had a nice fall break!

This is an awesome pictuer and I am kind of angry that it is fake. If this weer true it would have to be one of the coolest hings to ever happen. Nice blog Raul I really like it.

Wow, I'm glad that you now found out the truth about this picture. Who knows what other pictures you've seen that have been altered.
